Referencing and vetting

Referencing and vetting

There’s something so special about working at Heathrow and our Security Teams are at the heart of our airport. That’s why our reference checking and vetting process is so in-depth. We invest a lot of time and effort into recruiting the very best people for the job in order to keep our airport safe – and we really appreciate all the time and effort you invest into making that possible along the way.

Here’s what to expect:

  • We’ll contact all of your referees.
  • We’ll ask you to apply for and complete a Counter-Terrorism Check.
  • You’ll complete a Criminal Records Check.
  • We’ll ask you to take an in-depth online security awareness training course.
  • We’ll verify all the documents and references you give us.
  • Once all of this is complete, we’ll confirm your start date, terminal, and shift patterns.

If there are any problems with your references or any inaccuracies in your employment or travel history, this could extend the background check process beyond 15 weeks. That will mean moving your starting date or – if we can’t get all the details we require – canceling your employment offer. To avoid this, please make sure you’re thorough and provide all information requested.

What’s next?

Our referencing and vetting process can take 8 – 15 weeks – but don’t worry, it’ll be worth it. We’ll aim to complete it sooner if possible too. You’ll have a key contact who will keep you informed every step of the way. If you don’t hear from us don’t worry, we’re just busy working on your file in the background.

Please keep an eye out for any emails from our referencing team and we request for you to respond as quickly as possible to ensure we can complete your referencing activity in good time.
